Different kinds of cosmetology school grants
Here you are! Finally taking your first step into the school of cosmetology. But it’s far from what one would expect, isn’t it? The cost of your average degree in cosmetology has skyrocketed in the past few years or so – just like the rest of the education system.
But with the rise in education, there has been a rise in funds and grants offered by the government. And this is a major support for many students since cosmetology grants alone can cover anywhere between 50 to 60% of the total tuition cost.
That can make a world of a difference to students coming from financially compromised backgrounds.
If you want to learn about cosmetology grants/scholarships more specific to cosmetology school, then here are a few examples of cosmetology school grants:
NCEA Esthetician Scholarship
This is one of the lesser known scholarships that aims to help students who need financial aid, and have the scores and attendance to show for themselves. It’s a lump sum of $1,000 and is offered by the National Coalition of Estheticians.
Joe Francis Haircare Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all students enrolling in a general cosmetology or barber program and was started in honor of Joe Francis. It’s available to a number of students depending on how applicants qualify. This too is an award of about a $1,000 and is dependent on two factors other than financial need – the commitment to the course and the academic performance of the student.
American Cosmetology Education (ACE)
This is single-handedly one of the largest grants out for grabs for cosmetology students. It is offered by the ACE, with the support of a handful of corporate sponsors. The application is long winding and starts with your school of cosmetology. The basis for being awarded the grant includes financial need and the total cost of the program. Students go through a screening process through an interview that tests them in various areas. Start early if you hope to receive financial aid from the ACE.
These are some of the specific cosmetology grants and scholarships you can look into as a student of cosmetology. But don’t underestimate the availability of federal and state grants.
