Diabetes is a metabolic disorder. Diabetes is a disease which can either be hereditary or due to an unhealthy diet of an individual. It is a condition in which the level of blood sugar or blood glucose is higher than the required amount. Whenever we eat food, usually that contains carbohydrates, it breaks down into glucose which gets aligned with blood so that it can be utilized by our body. Diabetes is the inability of the body to produce an adequate amount of insulin which is essential for the consumption of sugar.
A scientist discovered the Beta islet cells of the pancreas that are responsible for producing insulin in the body.
There are two categories of diabetes which are widely classified as Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is called as juvenile diabetes which is found in children.
Diabetes symptoms
Diabetes is one of those diseases which can easily be identified on the basis of its diabetes symptoms. Diabetes symptoms are not challenging to identify.
Some of the early diabetes symptoms are:
- Polydipsia
It is a condition in which a person faces the problem of excessive thirst. The person experiences thirstiness all the time even after intake of fluids. The sensation of thirst, the drying of the throat and mouth could be noted as one of the early signs of diabetes and a major diabetes symptom. - Polyphagia
It is a disorder in which the patient is confronted with hunger most of the time. A person having diabetes always feels like eating some or the other thing. It is a state of excessive hunger or increased appetite which cannot be controlled. A person fails to satisfy his hunger. Due to insufficient production of insulin in the body, the required amount of sugar cannot be processed, which results in the excessive amount of sugar in the blood. As a result of this, the body fails to absorb sugar in the blood and it gets mixed with the blood in its raw form and circulates along with the blood. This causes lack of energy and thus the sensation of hunger. - Polyuria
It is a form of ailment in which the person feels the urge to urinate frequently. It might also be the result of polydipsia. Scientifically, it is defined as the frequent passage of large volumes of fluids, usually more than 3 liters a day. It is an early diabetes symptom. Whenever the blood is filtered through the kidneys, the excessive sugar is either reabsorbed in the blood or passed as urine, thus requiring large amounts of fluids. It is one of the ways the body opts for getting rid of excessive sugar. - Weight loss
Weight loss is often considered as a good thing among the youths, but it can be a dangerous issue if a person suddenly loses a considerable weight in a small frame of time. Insufficient amount of insulin prevents the body from actually using the sugar or glucose present in the blood thus depriving it of energy and healthy functioning of rest of the organs. This results in the incompetence of the body to store fats and glucose in the specifically required organs, which results in loss of weight at an alarming rate. - Fatigue
Laziness, sluggishness, tiredness, weariness, exhaustion, plodding, etc. are some of the typical characteristic behaviors of an individual suffering from diabetes. The person who has diabetes may feel like doing nothing all day due to lack of energy in him/her. These signs should not be ignored. One must contact the doctor or another equivalent specialist in reference to these diabetes symptoms.
Diet
As far as the diet of a diabetic person is considered, he/ she should prefer eating a lot of salad, fiber-rich food and should not eat refined flour. Avoid eating white flour, fried food, carbohydrate-rich food like rice, potato, etc. Avoid massive intake of starch opulent food components. Avoid alcohol, artificially sweetened drinks, preserved food items.
Try engaging yourself in exercises; early morning walks and build up a regime to work out because diabetes cannot be eliminated permanently but it can be controlled by taking certain precautions in the diets and routines.
