How to wear the perfect wedding guest attire
Weddings are infused with sweet memories. There are many wedding tips online, with advice ranging from appropriate attire to wedding etiquette. The following is a list of wedding-appropriate sartorial choices.
Shoes
Men should wear dress shoes, and ensure they are clean and polished. There are also a variety of smart-casual shoe options available, which can be acceptable.
Women, make sure you wear shoes that you’re comfortable in all day. Towering heels won’t last long on the dance floor, so considering having a pair of flats in your handbag for the reception.
Color
Weddings are the perfect occasion to wear color.
It may be wise to consider what color the bride and bridesmaids are wearing. White is usually reserved for the bride, and unless you want to look like a member of the bridal party, stay away from their tones.
Keep it formal
How often do you get to really dress up? Unless the wedding is explicitly stated as casual, enjoy the opportunity to wear something a bit dressy and special.
Women are spoilt for choice. Dresses are the norm but flowing tops and skirts, pants with tops and smart blazers, the choices are varied. Wear tailored dresses, pin-up style retro, whatever you feel comfortable in. Remember that wedding photos are forever and that a disastrous wedding outfit will be remembered forever. Use your friends to provide shopping and wardrobe assistance. Be respectful in your attire though, the wedding is about the bride.
Children should be dressed up too; boys in pants and shirts, and the range of girls dresses available is phenomenal!
Some brides request evening dress; in that case, men wear suits and women evening gowns!
Makeup
Daytime makeup is suitable for weddings. You want to look and feel like yourself though, so glam up whatever you normally wear, but ensure you still look like you. The same for hairstyles- a wonderful opportunity to dress up and play with new hairstyles to add to your look. If you get a fake tan, don’t ask for a darker shade than you normally do and risk looking like an Oompa Loompa. Stick to what you know works.
Accessories
Remember that your outfit needs a finishing touch. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and scarves need to be considered. Hats and fascinators are acceptable at weddings and may be the perfect exclamation point for your outfit. A wedding is also a great opportunity to use your favorite clutch or handbag, that one that you reserve for special occasions.
If you remember these guidelines, the bride will appreciate the effort you’ve gone to. You’ll fondly remember the wedding, and the wedding photos will be a source of joy rather than fashion tragedy.
