Use bunk beds to save space smartly
It’s always difficult to store, organize and accommodate everything neatly and stylishly in a small home. Though we all buy closets, shelves, tables and such to address this problem, things usually go out of hand when it comes to the nursery or kid’s room. Does it seem that there is never enough space for all the toys, books, video games and clothes in your little one’s room? Then you are not alone. And if you have more than one child, the problem can be much more severe, especially when it comes to beds. For a single kid, a single bed is sufficient.
Where all are bunk beds used?
Bunk beds are a set of cots placed one above the other. They are often seen in hostels where a large number of students reside. Since students need space for their activities as well as sleeping or resting, bunk beds are the best options there. Moreover, prison cells consist of many prisoners who have to be accommodated within a limited space and, hence, bunk beds are used there. Even ships and submarines have less space available in sleeping quarters. Bunk beds again come in handy then.
These beds are highly efficient since they occupy a small portion of the room and give more floor space for different activities. But note that bunk beds are not recommended for children less than 6 years, since they need a ladder to get to the upper bed and a small child can fall.
Types of bunk beds
Standard bunk beds
These feature one bed placed over the other. The upper one can be reached with the help of a ladder.
Loft beds
They are similar to standard bunk beds. The only difference is that instead of having two beds, it has only one and that too an upper one. The space underneath it can be used to create a study or to store toy bins and more.
Wooden bunk beds
These are widely used in homes for two or three kids. They are expensive, but can be designed according to one’s wish. Though they look like a matchbox but different themes and designs can bring out the life in them.
Metal bunk beds
These are mostly used in places where the number of inhabitants in a single room is many. They are robust and long-lasting, and are often used in hostels, prisons and ships.
Safety is important
When you choose to have a bunk bed in your house, it is important that you make the safety of your family members a priority. This is why the upper bed often has rails on all the sides, so that the person sleeping there doesn’t fall while sleeping. Metal rods are used on the sides to provide more safety.
